Foam ablation is a relatively new option that addresses larger varicose veins with non-invasive sclerotherapy options. The procedure involves injections of a foam sclerosing agent directly into the affected vein, causing it to seal shut and disappear. There are benefits to using foam ablation rather than traditional sclerotherapy in certain circumstances.
The foam agent can be tracked through ultrasound imaging, which allows for treatment of veins deeper in the leg. The greater potency of the foam also can be used on larger veins, while traditional sclerotherapy is restricted to smaller superficial varicose and spider veins. Patients may require fewer treatment sessions, since foam is able to treat a larger area of the affected vein in a single procedure.
Foam ablation is performed as an outpatient procedure at Daniels Vein and Cosmetic Center. The procedure takes less than an hour and patients are encouraged to return to regular activities immediately after treatment. Light compression stockings are worn for a number of days to promote healing and healthy blood flow.
Foam ablation is an effective method for treating larger varicose veins with minimal discomfort and no downtime. To learn more about foam ablation, or any of our vein treatments, contact Daniels Vein and Cosmetic Center today.
